A stoop and a house foundation at Charbonnet St. in Lower Ninth Ward. New Orleans, Louisiana

🎞️ #491-04

The image shows two photographs taken on the same day, juxtaposed side-by-side vertically. One photograph is of the stoop and house foundation at Charbonnet Street in Lower Ninth Ward in New Orleans, Louisiana; the other is a close-up of a small portion of that foundation.

In the first photo (top), a chain-link fence runs across the top of the image behind a large cement stoop. The stoop appears to have been lifted from its foundation, as it leans precariously to one side on what seems like an even larger concrete block. Beyond the stoop is the house's foundation, with small patches of greenery poking through.

The second photo (bottom) shows the same area much closer. It seems that there are two cement blocks together forming a step. The top of this step is flat and smooth, while the bottom has a rougher texture. A few pieces of trash are scattered around the block, including what appears to be a black tarp, some cardboard boxes, and a large piece of white foam.

In both photos, there's a green canoe in the background that seems to have fallen from above and landed upside-down on top of what looks like a pile of bricks. The second photo shows more clearly that the brick pile is mostly red bricks with small amounts of other colors mixed in. Beyond this, the fence runs across the image behind a large tree trunk.

The two images together show the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, which devastated New Orleans and its surrounding areas in August 2005.

– French translation
