On a sun-drenched summer day in June, I discovered an enigmatic species of mushroom while exploring the Caney Creek Trail in the Sam Houston National Forest, located north of Montgomery, Texas. The peculiar fungi, known as Mystery chick mushrooms (Piptoporellus soloniensis), adorned the side of a weathered log, their delicate caps and slender stems adding an air of whimsy to the forest floor. My photograph captures the essence of these intriguing organisms on June 23rd, 2022. – generated by AI |
