Mary E. Friedlander Klawetter and Richard Friedlander stones in Calvert Jewish Cemetery at FM 1644. Mary (or "Mamie") was a member of the prominent Friedlander family, early Jewish settlers in Calvert. Her marriage to A.W. Klawetter (likely a member of the Christian community or a non-observant Jew, given the Klawetter family s later presence in the general cemetery) illustrates the integration of Jewish families into the broader social fabric of the town. The presence of Masonic symbols on the Friedlander stone is common in this cemetery, as many of Calvert s Jewish male citizens were active Freemasons. Mary s marriage to A.W.
